Chemical augmentation for increased greatness at the peak of your abilities is shown as a fatal path, but not necessarily a pathetic one- It's the choice of Achilles, and (to a lesser extent) just about every famous sports figure of the past 40 years. Admittedly, it's generally the choice of the young and dumb, to whom 5 years is an eternity- but it makes plenty of sense as a deliberate choice nonetheless.<br />And frankly, it can be remarkably liberating to have No Future.
